About Me
Although my career path is far from conventional, the desire to help others has been the guiding thread. Each career taught me something different, ultimately informing my research interests and approach to clinical care.

In the Marine Corps, I turned to therapy when my PTSD became overwhelming, transforming my casual interest in psychology into a committed passion. I saw the signs of trauma that often go unacknowledged amongst my fellow service members, and taught them coping skills I'd learned to lessen their burden while directing them to the appropriate care.

In the classroom, I found myself acting not only as a teacher but also as a counselor. My students dealt with racism, sexual assault, forms of oppression they felt but couldn't name, and looked to me for answers. Explaining coping techniques was helpful, but enabling them with compassion gave them the confidence to face the adversity–sometimes that meant confronting themselves.

In the lab, I worked with participants suffering from anxiety and anxiety-related disorders, running trials and administering assessments. I noticed that treatments were often helpful, but it wasn't uncommon for symptoms to reappear over time. I began to think about ways we could expand on CBT to develop a more holistic understanding of mental health treatment.
